Substance Abuse & Use Prevention

Educating students on the harms, short term and long term, will not only help prevent substance use but also help students find another outlet. The Herren Project is just one nonprofit organization we plan to work with to provide treatment placement assistance, sober living and recovery coaching, consultations, and online support groups.

Breaking it down...

(Written by Katie Denyer, Policy Writer)

In our society we are sadly over taken with the excessive use, abuse, or misuse of drugs. Educating students on the harms, short term and long term, will not only help prevent substance use but also help students find another outlet. Some people who use substances might feel that it is their only way out, but we can help provide resources too. Implementing policies and initiatives to address substance use and abuse on campus, including education about the risks of alcohol and drug misuse, enforcement of underage drinking laws, and support for students struggling with substance abuse disorder will enhance our goal of keeping students safe and or providing services to help. The Herren Project is just one nonprofit organization we plan to work with to provide treatment placement assistance, sober living and recovery coaching, consultations, and online support groups. Within the Herren Project, there are clubs and one of them is a school-based prevention program that can be implemented to create peer networks and empower others to make healthy choices.
