Sustainability Initiatives
Climate change impacts the already underserved including both low-income and urban environments; Temple University is included in this demographic because of its position in an urban area. Taking inspiration from a successful campaign from a student group at Rowan University, ReimagineTU aims to work alongside Temple and the 300+ universities and colleges in the United States to urge the divestment from fossil fuels.
Divestment Campaign

ReimagineTU holding fossil fuel companies accountable is one of the most important things we can do to slow climate change. We intend to work with and persuade Temple, specifically the Board of Trustees, to divest from fossil fuels. Climate change impacts the already underserved the most including low income and urban environments.

Breaking it down...
(Written by Graysen Gill, Policy Writer)

The limit for global warming before we reach an irreversible catastrophe is thirty five degrees fahrenheit (two degrees celcius). In order to reach that point we would have to burn 565 gigatons yet fossil fuel companies have about 2,795 gigatons in their reserves. They intend to make a profit at all costs including our futures. We intend to work with and persuade Temple, specifically the Board of Trustees, to divest from fossil fuels.
Climate change impacts the already underserved the most including low income and urban environments. Temple has a direct stake in this due to its position in an urban area. As Temple seeks to prepare us for our future we must first start by guaranteeing its existence. Over 300 universities and colleges in the US have movements urging for divestment. One of these schools is Rowan University which has a student group running a successful campaign. We will grow support for this campaign by working with student groups on campus to show the Board that there is massive support for climate justice.
